Half way to New York.

We are settled in Kingston's Rondout Yacht Basin for the night.  Today was an easy run down from Albany with the tide and then a drudge against it.  We passed ships and barges and compatriots trying to save gas...

All while Jo relaxed with her jewelry creation hobby!

Now we are in Rondout Yacht Basin for the second time.  I managed to fall over a line and face plant into their dock hard but with no blood!  Bruises on nose wrist and leg and arm but no blood.  Scotch cures all ills!!

Sweet dreams!

Albany on the Hudson!!

We left Amsterdam at 0800 this morning as the workmen arrived to remove the floating docks.  It gave us an opportunity to thank the Amsterdam City Engineer for his hospitality yesterday in giving us keys for the marina while we waited out the weather. The storm passed with exceptional rain but not the tornado style winds that we were warned about:

Very relaxing trip down to Waterford among some very nice "homes" and fall colours.

We planned to stop and tie up for the night in Waterford but they were full.  We continued to Albany and tied up there.  A photo op just before we tied up in Albany:

And tied up....

Tomorrow?  Not sure yet but w e are now in tidal waters so we will head out at high tide to get some help down the Hudson River.  No more locks!

Staying for a day or two

It's another dreary day. Most of the boats moved out so we moved up and plugged in. Heat! Today is the last day the locks under repair are open so from tonight no more boats will come eastbound. We will stay here until Tuesday and head on then. Docks should be plentiful as most will have moved beyond us.

This is what a lock dam looks like when it is ok:

And when they have a "scour" issue this is what happens:

That was lock 13; the one that has been the cause of so much angst.  They hope it will be in a state to open in 2 to 3 weeks to let the boats that draw more than 7 feet through!

Anyway, this is where we are.  So far it looks like they left the power on and went away for the season.

We are right alongside the railroad.  About 20 trains a day and night!

One more R&R day and back along the canal...

October 5, 2013

Long day! Arrived in Amsterdam NY at 6:15pm after a day of avoiding dead heads and navigating locks. We saw the repair work going on at Lock 13. Major stuff. Good luck to those waiting out this opening weekend. No Internet here so I will post pictures when I can. We're tied up without power for tonight but those Caterpillars hold a lot of heat! But we are through the repair section and can take our time now.

Here's Jo and the cat weathering the trip:

Yes, the autopilot was on!

A little closer...

Today was pretty long.  Grey and drizzly weather, straight cut canals.    I think the last few days of sunshine have spoiled us!  We left the east side of Lake Oneida at 0845 and plodded along through 5 locks.

We docked in Little Falls at 5:15pm.

No worries.  Tomorrow we will work past the three locks under repair and can relax.  We have to be through before 8pm on Sunday before they close for 3 weeks of repairs.

2nd Lake crossed

We crossed Lake Oneida today. Like a mill pond. Last time was quite different. Tomorrow we move to Little Falls and the next day to the locks under repair. No Wifi here so pictures tomorrow!

October 2, 2013

We are staying one more day and crossing Lake Oneida tomorrow. We have a reservation at a marina on the other side.  Mark passed by in Bahia Mar this afternoon. We will let the majority go through ahead of us. We're in no hurry!
