Green Turtle

We were hoping to make a nice slow crossing to Marsh Harbour but the weather has not cooperated.  It turned out quite blustery after midnight. And, when I got up at 0600 there was a sailboat on the fuel dock.  Long story short, we decided to take our place at the fuel dock and set out.  The folks heading back to the US had a tough choice with head winds all the way.  For us it would be hard initially then ease off as we turned East for the Abacos.

Exiting the inlet was rough but once we turned into the Grand Bahama bank it smoothed out.  The dilemma I struggled with was that the weather had another northerly front coming in in two days and, if we wanted to make Hopetown we had to make Green Turtle Cay today. That meant turning up the wicks and planing all day.  That means $$$$.  No choice.  We got up on plane as soon as we hit deeper water and made 20.5 mph at 2350 rpm all day until 6 miles from Green Turtle.

Spooky wasn't too happy with the accelerated progress but found her place under the dash.

Just before Green Turtle I dropped down to "normal" speed to let everything settle to a cooler temperature.

We docked in Green Turtle Club at 1530.

That's me in the Peachy shirt going to pay for a bunch of >$5 gallons of diesel and dockage and water and power.

A couple of ultralight-amphibs came in.  Reminded me of Huck's!

Off to supper at the local restaurant and an early start tomorrow maybe.
